Mbiti, John S.
(b. 1931)
   Theologian and Ecumenist.
   Mbiti was born in Kitui, Kenya, and he was educated in Uganda, the United States of America and England. After ordination in the Anglican Church, he taught at the University of Makerere and was Director of the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Institute in Switzerland. Among his books are African Religions and Philosophy and Bible and Theology in African Religion. His theology is remarkable in that he argues that God can be found in the old African ways as well as in the Judaeo- Christian tradition.
